Pressure injuries

Regularly observe common pressure areas such as heels, hips, elbows and the sacrum. Seek advice if the skin changes color, becomes warm or breaks down. Repositioning schedules should follow individual risk assessment.

Joint stiffness and weakness

Reduced movement may contribute to weakness and joint limitations. A professional can advise on safe positioning and movement. Never force a stiff or painful joint.

Breathing and swallowing

Coughing or choking during meals or a change in voice after swallowing warrants clinical assessment. Do not test swallowing by giving food or drink yourself.

Blood clots and warning signs

New swelling, warmth or pain in one leg needs prompt medical review. Sudden chest pain or severe breathlessness is an emergency; call 1669 in Thailand.

Daily care and physiotherapy

Families can monitor skin, keep the environment clean and follow an individualized care plan. Physiotherapy may address positioning, transfers, mobility and caregiver education when suitable.
